Lucille Ball Comedy Collection Volume 1 (2 Disc)
Category: ball & cast upholstered bench
Lucille Ball, before becoming the queen of TV, was known as the "queen of the Bs" for RKO pictures, starring in over 43 films. This collection presents three seldom-seen gems from Lucy's time at RKO, allowing modern audiences to witness her ascent to stardom. In 1938, she appeared alongside Joe Penner in the comedy Go Chase Yourself, where Carol Meeley (played by Ball) sets out to prove her husband's innocence after bank robbers use their camper. Transitioning to a leading role, Lucy starred in Next Time I Marry as heiress Nancy Crocker Fleming, who must marry an "ordinary American" to claim her inheritance, leading her to hire a husband. The collection also includes Look Who's Laughing from 1941, showcasing a glamorous Lucy. Directed by Allan Dwan and written by James V. Kern, the film is a lively satire featuring Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. This film is a precursor to Lucy's iconic role in I Love Lucy, directed by Kern.
